graduating
by Mary Frances Spencerflat hats swing tassled hopes
smiles of summer
college
adventures beckon
on the cusp of adulthood
striding with rolled yesterdays
crisply into
tomorrow
we proud relations
breathe relief euphoria
nest empty sooner than a blink
future rises
inevitable oceanic waves
highs lows crashing sandy memories
the deep unknown future stirs below
but for now hugs
gifted sundries and moneys float
positive intentions
unfurl the sails bright white against the blue
go forth educate
find yourself in
that beautiful new horizon
as we wave and shove
the boats into the water
into and with the wind
may love joy light
always ride
on your deck
and your vision
be true
