A Day of Fishing with Dad

by Marjorie Anne Reagan

The Stillness
of the water
trees,mist
as if standing at attention
saluting our arrival
in time to feel the sweet still
heartbeat of nature
my own aligned with it
however happy i was to be with you
this feeling of joy
the only kid allowed to go fishing
with Dad
I was only six or seven
just small compared to the greatness of you
how i begged Mom to please ask you
it's something the "men just did"
i just knew i was missing something
really special
like God or something
my little kid
insticts were right
i was missing God
because he definitely was there
the scene so clear in my forty something mind
the fact you were even by my side tall mighty
omnipotent Father
there was something even greater
it took my breath away
when i got down to that river bank
fishing pole in hand
like the female version of Opie
elated and not scared for a second
though hearing other women speak
of the woods
gave me pause to wonder what thier issue was
with the majestic dawn i experienced
no talking
the stillness
and peace
just like you
so filled
i remember being in that boat with you
that lake was so still and mist covered through the trees
how special i felt
that i was good, no trouble for you to take care of
so i got to go with you
one of the most special days of my life
can't even remember if i caught a fish
the peaceful mist over the water
woven between pines trees
overtakes me still
Something else pristine and sweet
the love of Father and Daughter
I thank God for it everyday.
Strong big, peaceful,stoic,tree
with branches for many birds and eagles.
Feeding and protecting many
Strong but silent, Thank you for the memory the beautiful day of fishing with Dad.
