Contract

by Tota Longmire

Take a knife and scrawl your name in my heart.
I will use the blood to sign over my soul.
To the devil? No, to you my dearest love.
Later use that knife to stab me in the back.
My blood from your name, from that signature,
Driven deeply from my blindside into my being.
Leave you? No, you still have that contract.
Love you? I have to.

Those last two lines are perfect.
