Recur//Dissolve (W/ Morgan Hafele)

by Anita Mac

In his eyes passion is only pure
once it's been distilled with dark deeds,
shot down and pumped out.

In her eyes life is only real
hidden behind blood and shadow,
cut out and eaten raw.

He said, "I only like
the flavor because it tastes like you."

She said, "I only like you because
I can forget
you
in seconds."

But this is false honesty;
an eagerness to appear to understand
oneself and human nature and the universe
unquestionably//unquestioningly.

This toxic lust is a preventative measure
against the unforgivable connection lingering beneath.
Missed again,
and this war of games goes on.

She whispered something he didn't understand
planting something deep within
memories of mind-fucks and empty
desires coated in the ashes of old lovers.

Youth has something to say about bleeding hearts
beating away on the same dirty sleeve.
He said, "I wish
I wasn’t choking you to death."

She licked him off of her lips,
blinked twice
and watched him disappear.

And the world moves on to
the next eternal moment
as though they aren't fated to just dance over it all again.
Someday they will bleed into each other completely
without even the dignity of a light heart between them.

Author's Note: What can I say? I'm a sucker for collabs... particularly with the kind of brilliance that Morgs rocks.

"I wish I wasn't choking you to death" It all seems to come to a head here, for me, and all that follows is a fitting resolution. Anything but light hearted indeed! Kudos :)
