Grow Your Weird

by Amy Manning

You grow up looking at those people
Staring at those people
Hearing other people comment on those people
With an ‘Okaaaay’
And comments later in the car
That don’t make sense to you

It starts slow

Slow

You want something different
You’ve been dressing the same too long
Or your hair has hung the same way
Too long

Cut it
Change it

Feel the stares and love them
You move to something more

Different authors to read
Better musicians to find on the wide
Wide
Web

Life expands
And you realize
It’s not different, or unique
It’s just the bit of life you never saw before

I really like your work. Usually people our age write on this same subject in a whiny, why-me sort of way, but you do it in a creative, $#%@-you sort of way. Really well done.
