Sandbox Scientist

by Matt Odell

I remember those days,
when the world felt SO big.
Even the edges of my sandbox went on for miles.
Seas of sand
My ocean
Captain me to a voyage more beautiful than that.

And now?
I jet set.
This is science and I’m on a mission.
Arctic circle and back
in 3 weeks flat.
Sifting through secrets of frozen lands.

But it feels like my work is an ice berg,
in a martini ocean, shaken not stirred.
How far into the future can we really see
and is it really far enough?

Author's Note: What is the importance of the age of Carbon being released into glacially fed watersheds in the arctic circle when I have to travel 6000 miles in aircraft burning fossil fuels to get there.

Some powerful imagery. The whole thing is laid out quite powerfully.
