Perfect

by Aaron Blair

I guess I was doing it wrong,
loving you the way you were.
You wanted someone to tell you who to be,
a brick wall to bang your head against,
until the blood ran down into your eyes,
and you couldn't see yourself anymore.
You wanted the rasp of the lock,
the immutable weight of the chain.
You will always be perfect
and I will never want to change you,
even though you always want to change.
