THE FIRST LAUGH (Tal) by Ryan Narceyou were faintly drunk and we talked about
what it felt like when we hugged, how it meant everything to feel
each / other’s lungs fill with air, chests rising & falling in occasional tandem
& how it felt to smell one another’s bodies, taste salt on the neck,
chirping hot obscenities all the while
i recited a few phrases and you blushed, throwing your head back in a slow roll
breathing in for a laugh that always comes out silent, with your eyes pinched
behind those big pink glasses
small breasts dancing in your shirt, & we agreed that all our time together
was stolen from our sleep
& when I awoke, I only knew you from that place
& i sat & watched as you held hands
& threw back that head of yours
for a mercenary laugh that i could hear
all the same
