My Daughter

by Jane E Pearce

How many years have flown,
and with days of pride,
you have always been welcome
by my side.

There seems to be a chasm now-
perhaps you you miss your life
with its calm when we were all together-
with smiles- Donna, you, your Dad, and Mom.

Perhaps I have heaped on you
my secret tears and grief,
but I'll try to smile more
and be silly wouldn't that be a relief?

Please don't dread to come here.
I'll promise more laughter.
For Sandra's lunch I got giddy-
and didn't know where I was at ----
so I bought a lovely powder blue, straw hat.

There, I have said a few things that have been in my mind
you see I love ya' Mable- the best daughter and friend I could find.

Mom

Awww, Jane. I have a daughter I just might have to read this to. *hugs* to you and your sweet mommy heart!

Jane, I think this is something my mother might have written to me if she wrote poetry and if she knew the right words to say. This is so poignant. I pray your daughter sees this as an olive branch rather than anything else she may interpret it as. ~Chelle~
