Before the end by Kosta GkekasThat tiny train journeyed lightly lit upon the air,
beneath it an ocean with a solitary boat and the moon just beyond it.
i remember you often, as you wore, that wispy white dress
and i held to your hand as you said,
"what we live can never be enough".
With the songs that we sang as a duo, the voices now echo,
a shattered heart on a bench which discovered betrayal
once you told me it's not possible, others must have felt it
before the end comes resembling silence, like the largest of loves.
And i will live forever, this moment here,
fleeing before seeing the end
and every night passing, i find my return
becoming darkness and giving up
to the rhythm of your breathing, still burning
this body which remains eons sans shadow
every night which passes like a rerun
showing a life spent together, now forgotten on the footpath
every night which passes so closely
and i leave before we become alone, before the end
before i spy the metal stairs
as you state we always stay alone
the night has come, deftly, deeply, air choking
once you had said others must have felt the same
before an end, see how silence matches the greatest love
and i, still alive at this moment in silence 05/12/2011 Posted on 05/12/2011 Copyright © 2026 Kosta Gkekas
