heard it before

by Charlie Morgan

a poet was dragged to the station house,
accused of murder; seems he had slain
poetry from just one publication.

he fell at their feet, begging them
to please release him; he was late.
he had an appointment to read his work.

he pursed his lips and started plagiarising immediately.
no one knew, the patrons traded golf handicaps
for glasses, all wanting to read his piece.

it all sounded so familiar.
