out-running my shadow

by Charlie Morgan

getting on with life i testify silently,
my position on the parapet of humanity.
it's then that i awaken in a dark forest,
addled and confused, for as Dante says,
'i've lost my way.'

handcuffed to society's ideas and ideals,
i slog happily toward the nirvanas of all.
this life is paradise yet i'm a dawg at bay;
leisure is looked at in a mirror; never real.
childhood becomes nostalgic and harmful.

i yearn for the lump-sum, now! and disdain
when it doesn't arrive; pacing the platform
i'll break with my toothbrush and socks;
start slow, outrun my shadow tomorrow.

The larger image this thing creates is just wonderful, man.
