Freedom

by Matt Odell

Today I lit my hopes on fire
and tossed their ashes into the breeze.
I'll let the wind carry them to a far off distant place.
I've held on to them for too long,
its time to set them free.

They played heavy on my heart strings,
a game of jenga by rail to the highest mountain in North America.
and though they will not be forgotten,
In their freedom may I too take flight.

Its time I just believed,
for hope can give you the desire to
but hopes themselves are empty
wilting flowers that only thirst for commitment.

Author's Note: Today was one of the most beautiful days I've had all year. Yet, I still long for something I can't control. May this poem represent me letting loose and just living like I need to.

Well done Matt! I know where you are coming from in your Author's Notes. We all tread those emotions in the byways of our lives and loves!
