Spring

by Leonard M Hawkes

Is it May or is it March?
It's cold and drab and drear.
Snow is falling softly,
There are no birds to hear.

May or March? A leaden sky,
Near frost still bites the cheek;
Naked trees, no wild flowers,
And stiff mud cakes the feet.

Is it May or is it March?
This gray gloom holds me tight--
Yet Spirit whispers brighter truth
In bud and stream and light.

Nice, casual train-of-thought piece. Well done, sir.
