Summer adventures

by Matt Odell

Satisfyingly snow blind
All in the name of glory
pushed to the limit.. and then some,
The writing of an epic story.

Satisfyingly snowblind,
a hero when the story is told.
Re-living the vitality of adventure,
was it really worth what was sold?

Unsatisfying snowblind,
was the adventure worth the risk?
When you've lost something forever,
and the future is what you'll miss.

Unsatisfyingly snowblind,
I'll miss you while your gone.
Adventures can take us places,
just make sure you get back home.

Author's Note: I wrote this poem on my lunch break on the back of my subway receipt. It's for all my friends currently leaving for summer field work but it's also fun to think of the different definitions of the word adventure, be it personal growth, growth in a relationship, etc. I have been thinking a lot about my own life-adventure lately. Hope you all enjoy.

I'm not surprised at how you came to write this. There is indeed a wonderful sense of spontaneity, brief stream-of-consciousness that gives the thing a great punch.
