Missed

by Jeffrey Parren

I miss you,
romantic me.

The shadow I once cast
was from yesterday's sunlight
and the today's of forever
are changed infinitely.

To that guy I once was,
it was nice to have known you.

The hopes and dreams
of the youth and innocent
are seldom kept
in the time line that is life.

I suppose that I wish
mine lasted a touch longer.

I've been far away from
what person I envisioned myself
to be
for quite some time
and gravitating towards
equilibrium
seems more unlikely.

It was futile to think
that I could be me again,
erasing spilled ink
that is life and existing.

Self-defeating prophesies
feed on the people
who figured out life too early.

When the mirror cannot lie
any longer and the truth
is undeniable.

Things have happened
both big and small
but the minute ones
seem so gigantic
when the events of the aged
happen to the innocent.

A lot of really nicely done confessional material in this. It was really good stuff.
