nightmares of retirement by Charlie Morganwaking up, i rub my history from my eyes;
squinch my forehead like an eight day clock,
reaching for next week, bending its pendulum.
started lecturing to my couch and t.v.
being set for the day i went to the mail box;
i had a three year old take-home test returned.
a C student was waiting for her final grade report.
that was my yesterday life; the one i abandoned.
i waited; i was retired so i stood and followed
the parade, got in line behind the elephants;
they handed me a shovel, yelling 'get to work, mate!
i longed to be let loose from this nightmare. 04/26/2011 Posted on 04/27/2011 Copyright © 2026 Charlie Morgan
