Bethany collected penguins.
Ceramic, stuffed, homemade.
Bethany was twenty-two.
She guarded her virginity
Still lived with mom and dad.

Bethany went to a bridal shower
For her best friend Kendra.
At a bar called "The Deuce".
She only wanted to drink spritzers
But the tequila and Jack flowed.

The drinks came by the tray.
The girls danced to the Cars.
The girls danced to Cyndi Lauper.
The girls laughed like girls.
The girls drank like drinking girls.

One of two things happened that night.
Either Bethany eventually left the party
Determined to make her self-imposed curfew,
Or Bethany was impregnated behind the dumpster
By a guy named Ferdie "The Ploughman".
