Core Few

by Jeffrey Parren

Sometimes it feels like
there are only a few people
who are really rooting for you,
but as I look back
to the years of maturing
I realize the few people
my mother had around her.

That is not to say
there weren't plenty she worked with
or people she counted on
or trusted to a certain extent.

But when you really think about it
there are a core few people
who mean the most to each individual
whether they have 10 million fans
or 100.

They're the ones
who root for you
even if it means
they don't get
what they want.

I guess this was written
just to say
that I know who you are.

...a thought sent-out by every writer, every journeyman of every trade...just a few...jeffery, this is a loud statement done softly...it is as you say. cs lewis says it's nice to have a saturday afternoon free unless you're free because you don't matter. should be the epitath of each poet.
