Tom Waits, Didn't Waits

by James Blaylock

Tom Waits, Didn't Waits

well, as a wee child he'd
learned all the pleasures,

the grown-ups had nothing
on him, so he kept moving

they drank - he drank
they cursed - he cursed
they smoked - he smoked
they had sex - well, he had to Waits a bit for puberty!

but by the time he was a tad older he was
known to've delved into every sewer, for real

and his worn body, his torn voice, and shaky fingers
could hold nothing back, but by now he was 'a man'

so's all he could rightfully do
was sing out all those Blues
