Your lullaby of praise

by Kimberly Bauer

I wrote you a vengeful lullaby
To shove the hurt into your face
To let you feel the pain you caused

And then the computer died
And it never dies

So I took this as a sign
That the world does not need my hateful spite.
So instead I change this to a lullaby of praise.

With all that remains of me
I thank you for those broken days
When my heart the cold slab of concrete
When I shook inside as a broken masterpiece
For the days that tore the spirit of who I use to be.

You gave me a reason to rebuild
You forced me to relearn love.
You taught me to seek a sincere kindness.

When my heart shut down to the outside world
I was forced to look within
And with what I found
I will never be the same

So I thank you for those broken days
And I turn love out of so much hate.
I now see broken dreams as wide open spaces
I now see tortured memories as reason to hope.
