bent wires by Kimberly Bowenthe twisting lurch of unfinished words
the gasping breath from a stuttered beat
consonants and vowels jumble on the tip
of a love-tied tongue
shutter, shiver, and release
hooks tether one soul to the next
un-relinquished, the stings pull and tug
one pinch more, I’ll be bleeding out on the floor
disguised, pretending the single beat
doesn’t strum a one note song for you
lie, hide, bury myself alive
failing to make it through
too scared to break more than a whisper
across the bent and rusted wires
silence collapses against my ears
is it all broken beyond repair?
