Wonderful Collisions

by Ken Harnisch

I have not lost my
Affection for skirted thighs
And the lasses who wear them
I pray for spring
And their lightening the fairways
Of sordid winter’s footpath
That treads heavier each
Year upon my soul

I watch sprays of hair
Being tousled in the wind
And smiles wrung
From eye contact that, shyly
Met, recognizes appreciation
For a moment of serendipitous beauty

I smile knowing I could
Recite words over coffee
That might ignite the tinder
On a cool spring night
But knowing how
Responsible I’ve become
Of late, I know that
I am only dreaming

Still, it is nice to dream
Knowing how dreams
Are often woven of desire
And desire from fate
And fate from happy accidents

And spring, I’ve always thought
Is the season for such
Wonderful collisions
