Everything Is Bitter. Everything Is Sweet.

by Aaron Blair

Everything is bitter.
Everything is sweet.
Even the ashes in my mouth melt like sugar,
though they taste of soap,
taste of skin, and the burning away
of affection, the immolated heart.

With a piece of chalk, I draw circles
around the middle of me,
inside the places I feel safe,
and he will never go there,
because all he ever wanted
was to boast to himself how easily
he could find ways to draw me out.

But I won't say that I don't love him
and I can't say that I don't hate him.
The tears were so bitter, running into my mouth,
but the blood he drew was always sweet.

...gawd girl! what a dynamo-write. it's path is so sleek, and the bow-tie the last two lines make is the capstone. no pun, but a biting write.

I agree with Charlie; this is a fabulous read and the last 2 lines really bring it home!
