mute traverse

by Matthew Sharp

i would sing your shitty mood to sleep
sleep when i speak
and scream your silence
to shake off the debris
that sticks to me in repetition
we create cycles
and it frustrates me
to point it out
slower and slower
each time the seconds
skip like a scratched cd
perpetual relativity
inevitable unity
or a lack thereof
and back and forth
sometimes i feel like
im standing on the heaving breast
of a monster we created
out of curiosity and need
as i traverse the sea
my knife steadily poised
above the heart
