when you got what you got

by Charlie Morgan

what issues forth is a driving force
that takes us into tomorrows, known
and unknown; our space crammed shut.

a zipper to the frontal lobe: perception.
our release is serving our selfish gene;
the days make a pile of dirty washables.

i can see now why Jesus drew in the sand,
as they say in the country-western song:
'how the hell's Leonard 'sposed to know?

'tis a pity that all we know is what we know.
Vonnegut and Saussure are slap-happy; their
visions secure. Man with a big brain disease

and the same man assumes, what he sees is real.
