I watch by Maria FrancescaI watch the news
and toss and turn all night
before rolling out of bed again in the morning
and running to the store to buy
flashlights
plastic sheeting
duct tape.
I watch people
and run out to buy books and magazines
that tell me how to understand
the human mind
body
heart.
I watch with eyes
that ingest
but studiously refuse to project.
I watch
and wonder
and worry
and plot my own survival.
I watch and fail
to understand
all that I see.
I listen
and hear nothing real.
I reach
and grasp nothing.
I watch
alone.

Posted by John Smith on 03/21/11 at 03:37 AM I felt it. Not a good feeling, but I felt it. Good job. |
Posted by Alison McKenzie on 03/21/11 at 06:48 AM You capture that surreal feeling I've been having about the events in the world. I can't even write about any of it at this point, so I am grateful for your voice, Maria. |
