NY City

by JJ Johnson

"Come to the city, your poetry has style
If you don't move to New York I'll...."
What will you do? What will you do? !
I'd really like to know
I might pack up and go
Though I'm not sure what I'd be getting myself into
Nothing could hold me back if I was getting into you

If your emotions reflected mine
Instead of leaving them behind
I'd find a way to get away
But I don't own a car
And things the way they are
I'd be no closer to my desired destiny
Than I'd be if I remained here in Schenectady

Surely you must know by now what dreams I see
I remember what you told me "Follow your dreams!"
Follow my dreams?
You've said it before
So I'll tell you again
Whether I'm awake or asleep, it doesn't matter when
I want to love you with more than just paper and a pen

Money doesn't add up in my head
Nothing adds up except the words you've said
They add up and down, they add all around
Is my formula wrong?
Why's it taking so long?
There must be a silent way to destroy the dollar sign
The only thing I really want is to make you mine
