March 6 - Godspeed, You.

by Jason Wardell

There were those days, when felt
like Yankee U.X.O.

(3) U.X.O. is unexploded ordnance is landmines is cluster bombs.

And would add is flames and brimstone
is potential energy pulsing in the air
is antennae conduits b/w earth, heaven,
subterranean squalor; six hundred skinny fists
clenched on the $50 story and the $20
for the shirt, ten years later.

Five years ago, would have been among them,
money in fist, pretending at musical revolution,
hammer in fist, ready to change the world.

Music will not change the world,
it will only change yr. world.

Can see the difference now.
Should be grateful;
am not.

Author's Note: Quote from the footnotes to Godspeed You! Black Emperor's "Yanqui U.X.O." It's still a good album but not a lot more than that to me anymore.

Absolutely amazing from bell to bell.

Insightful. Music may encourage those who would change the world. It has had its influence surely.
