March 5

by Jason Wardell

The single drip-drops of daylight
don't outlast the deluge splash of night.

Standing is not my natural state
I have found.
It doesn't take much to bring me
to the ground.

I've yet to find the time of year
that doesn't always let me down.

Sooner or later, I'll stand back up.
Later.

Author's Note: Too much music in these fragments. Be gone.

Pessimism prevails but a bit of hopefulness in the last two lines. A bit!
