March 4 - Self-Portrait

Palette of scar pink,
off-white and red,
grey-black swirl
around the eyes,
through the hair:
time-darkening.

How does one convey jealousy?
Greed? Envy? Lust?

Once sketched,
roughen the edges,
add tension in the jaw,
mouth closed,
eyebrows raised
to invoke pity,
feed the sleep
coiled below the eyes.

It's a deeper kind of tired
as one who sleeps but never
rests.

He craves extinction at his
darkest but he continues on
because

I like the visual that blends into the psychological--good work!

i agree with Leonard. Great poem. I can relate to the last 2 stanzas.
