Straight Up

by Jeffrey Parren

It's easier to give up
resisting the tides of change
and accepting the facade
that may only exist in your mind.

The dreariness of this life
is sometimes overwhelming
in its simple, mundane,
and unquantified existence.

So many things left unsaid
while accolades can go undone
the spiritless man grows and grows
further apart from his primal origins.

In this allegory that is life
(or is it the life that's the allegory?)
there are hordes of people
who wander without pushing the limits.

Then there are the prime few
who come before the cliche
creating the worlds around them
instead of the other way around.

And somehow in this life
you can manage to float between
being a mover and a sedentary;
it's all in the decision.

Do I fight for who I can be
or do I resign to what others
think I am to be
or what the world has decided?

The only person that is deciding
what or who I become is me.

...jeffery, a fruitful write; both ways: to deliver it and to read it. you did great job of not making the usual, and yet pointing-out that the usual is something you had better be good at, or get good at. the answer is: there is no answer...is it an allegory or an allegory of stories and you chose this one, eh?...very deep write, a keeper.

A good, solid, honest message both well delivered and well received. You're a talented writer Jeffrey, and this is an excellent read.
