Years

by Richard Vince

There are questions we don’t ask,
Because we know that the answers
Will be made of disappointment
Or disagreement.

The knowledge is almost known,
But not quite, as if the light is
On in an adjacent room.

Years treat us well, and they
Treat us badly, but we always
Look for happiness in what we have,
Not sadness in what we never had.

How true this is! We don't ask certain questions and we don't make certain comments. Not if we want a relationship to last. If we are happy enough with things as they are, we struggle to hold things together rather than rip them apart! That is part of life and the aging process. Nice write Richard.

"The knowledge is almost known" - a charming and enticing statement. Another beautiful write.

awesome piece! the first stanza really sticks out for me. the questions we don't ask usually seem to out weigh the questions we do.
