lifeline

by Emily Davidson

tracing my lifeline
down the center of my palm
you tell me that this wrinkle
is the red line to alewife
and this line is the express train to L.A.

your glasses are at the tip
of your nose
your eyes—naked
staring, staring, staring

tracing
my lifeline, you are
staring
you are smiling
