put me in Coach

by Charlie Morgan

pointing to the hollowness,
while its back was turned,
i grinned in pain.
all these years
i finally found peace
between
the hard rock of Jesus
and
the softness of a granchild's plea.

looking but not touching, i thought
life was a visual game, not a
participatory sport.

suiting-up at 64, the uniform fits
a little baggy. feels new, fresh!

i'll have it dirty by the ninth inning.
