The Quickening by Jayme L HelmickThe hitch of my breath
The flame in my veins
My flesh crying out for release
The Quickening comes
The air is heavy and clear
Magic swirls in my head
The voices whisper in echoes
The Quickening comes
I try to contain it
It flows through my skin
And pounds a rhythm in my bones
The Quickening comes
The earth melts in ecstasy
The trees hold baited breath
The birds sing out their welcome
The Quickening comes
Every heartbeat draws it closer
Every twitch calls it nearer
Burgeoning lust and power ebbs
The Quickening comes
My body, my earth
My blood, my river
My breath, my breeze
My desire, my flame
