Reversed

by Jeffrey Parren

Someone once
sent me a text
telling me that I was
“reversed by the people around me”
and consequently
I became confused.

I had thought
the conversation
was headed towards positivity
and suddenly I felt
awkward and alone.

“Reversed?”

Backwards?

Or “re-versed,”
like my writing
was over-played
or already done
by someone else.

I know my clothes
are out of style
and I am anything
but incredibly original
yet this simple word
was like a dagger
cutting through my being.

As the worthlessness
of my fragile existence
began crumbling down,
I finally replied
to the ongoing silence:

“What does 'reversed'
mean anyway?!”

“Oh it was a typo...
Revered, revered, revered!”

Whew, I'm revered.

“So, people think I'm epic?
Yeah, me too.”

great write here, love the arc, how precisely and delicately this doily of introspection is sewn, humanity is here, how the curling petal lines blossom, the poem smiling almost at its clever self...well delivered :) peace n poems, jewels
