#25 - cadillac days

by Linda Fuller

today the 1950s are iconic
back then, it was simply now
Red Skelton on television
(black and white with vertical roll)
Life and Look and penny loafers
I Like Ike and double bubble
we could burn our trash outside
run the sprinklers every day
and in the drowsy summer months
we’d hit the western highways
in our blue Studebaker
with the swim fins on the back

Author's Note: Poem-a-Day January 2011 #25
My father did put swim fins on the back of our Studebaker to glam it up a bit.

does every era end up being iconic in it's own way? 50, 60 years from now, will the youngsters think of the 1980s & 1990s as an exciting time to have been alive.
