oh love, will be no words soon enough

by Vikki Owens

angered and broken like a starving bird
on a wire of tungsten,
driving like a origami crane on
the sterile waves of an ocean,

this promise you made,
kisses you gave
like the signing of a contract
inkwell lips signed quill-pierced heart, vellum-thin

oh my husband,
you have done me in,
and with it the one thing i had to give

now i give Love-proper with ashy lips,
oh this font and paper, o this parchment love and bindings...
each flake of pigment loosens and fades away...
