somebody

by Charlie Morgan

i would sing for you
but you never hurt me
that badly; oh, yeah,
there was that one time.

i didn't remember to
forget about that time;
it still hovers vulture-like
chewing the dew-laden fog.

i rode the heavy, lumpy mist-cloud
all the way to the rainbow, caught
two lovers kissing among the coins.
shined and ready; they weren't us.

I love that first stanza. This is definitely a strong conversational piece, and that wonderful first stanza is the best example.

You just keep expanding your word play, and I love what comes of it!!! And yet, the simplicity of what is being said is just spot-on as well. Well, sir, I find myself drooling oodles of poetic respect here...

Ah with love we always seem either to hurt or be hurt somewhere along the way. Usually because we expect too much. We fool ourselves so often that things are other than we believe.
