schools are prisons

by Stuart Shilton

defined and confined by what
we’ve added and
subtracted away the human spirit
that makes us unique
three point four and a 32
defining my intelligence, my existence
but I know enough to
realize I am more than some numbers and letters
I am potential I am the future
I and I are America
More than what we’ve
subtracted away
I am

Condensing knowledge and education
Into quantifiable numbers
Assigning letters to people
I am not an A student
I am not a student
Life teaches me
I am a disciple
A practicioner
A human being

I hated school. Was good at it; but learned nothing I could have learned on my own.Great write!
