Reflection by Jeffrey ParrenI glanced into the mirror
just like I did most mornings
but today my reflection
was somewhat different.
“No need to be alarmed,”
I quickly thought to myself.
“You're changing, again,
and this time for the better.”
There are many reflections
that I can recall instantly
and all are different
for various reasons.
I remember seeing myself
for the first time
after my car accident
and not recognizing the image.
When the reflection was sad
I realized things needed to change
and although it took time
I have altered many things.
In college I learned
my image on a window
can also display
my level of safety.
As I continue to grow
the many reflections
are combining into one:
the reflection that is I.
At times I didn't like
what the reflector
was showing me
so I tried looking away.
I realize the less you look
at and into yourself
the less you care to know
who it is you can be.
And as I reflect back
onto all my reflections
I understand their power;
how much they mean, to me. 01/03/2011 Posted on 01/03/2011 Copyright © 2024 Jeffrey Parren

Posted by Charlie Morgan on 01/03/11 at 07:46 PM ...jeff, a touchy [because reflection brings introspection] and that usually ends in a change of some sort or another; a scary trek to most; i love how you can "just know" one day, happens to me a lot(i'm much older-64)and in some of those days... few peeps around me could/would reason that way uhhh comfortably. cool, expressive write. |
