Mistakes

by Jeffrey Parren

I woke up this morning
hoping to erase the mistakes
I made yesterday
but realized the ones I made
the day before that
led to the ones made
that I was so worried about, now.

To regret the mistakes made
yesterday
would be to regret everything
I have ever done
since these mistakes
are the dominoes
of my life
as every choice is,
so getting here happened
because of both mistakes
and wisdom gained
from some of those
very mistakes.

If I am not mistaken
or deceived
I have arrived upon today
to write this gathering
of letters
forming a poem
proving I have not erred -
not completely, anyway.

I like the reference to dominoes and the realization that our mistakes help shape us. I do think there are a couple ways this poem could be improved upon, if I may. First, I think talking about the poem in the end takes away from it greatly. Also, the word "mistakes" is a little too repetitive. Perhaps some thesaurus references in place of a couple uses of mistakes to liven it up. I do like this though.
