a deadly subject

by Charlie Morgan

i awake, put on the same smile
others are used to seeing;
as we all agree they'll do the same
then begin anew the day.

life is not funny that way.
rather monotonous and blaise.

each faces a terror of which
they won't speak. the moment.

some wait for Godot, some for Jesus.
some wait for the next fix;
some for the next taste of flesh.

as the elephant in the room looms;
larger than life but not talked-about
is Life and Death. a deadly subject.
