November 22nd

by Stephen Ogden

The eulogy describes one life.
My mind sees other snapshots.

The young dad, in cricket whites.
The teaching dad, balancing bank statements.
The professional dad, anxious and stressed.
The married dad, restless within his vows.
The absent dad, a blank photo-frame.
The retiring dad, thankful for life.
The grandad, loving his children's children.
The dying dad, fighting to the end.

Whichever is the dad we knew,
He bought us to this time and place.
