smiling essence

by Maria Massarella

and ... who

would count the days the nights
the morning wakes in that liminal space
where i would step into life
veiling dreams
pregnant with the allures
silent poems render

moments when i would hushhh
the pen's lament as it lay
untouched
in bedside adornment. then

this morning i found you
in a wondrous space

writhen my page surrendered
its fertile blankness to be the
complacent heaven of this
thank you note for
the visit the revitalizing embrace
and the joyous warmth
of your laughing wings

but i'm not going to tell you what i wrote

I love how playful this is, especially the last line! You, dear Maria, are sparkly as a spring butterfly lighting on all the prettiest flowers.

The delicacy of your delight you share so lavishly here is only eclipsed by the beauties that blossom from the tip of your pen to the parchment. You know I would read this as another beautiful birthday wish from you... Thank you for the beautiful way you began my birthday, Maria. It has been heavenly ever since. You spread joy wherever you go...

Lovely, a mystic aura to this poem -- from whence comes the intuitive consciousness of poems? You tease our imaginations with your last line!
