Alone is a Choice, But it is Not a Choice

by Anastasia Selby

I took a walk tonight
to avoid my neighbors
who had invited me over
for pizza "with a bunch of people my age."

Seems that's all I do;
evade,
avoid,
I watch a movie instead of writing;
I take a walk in a downpour
instead of talking to people,

then I feel bad
for not having anyone to talk to.

I catch myself feeling sorry for myself
and I wonder,
what the hell's wrong with me?

Everything.
Everything is wrong with me.
