broken iris

by Vikki Owens

i cried and cried,
oh my love, i thought i'd
rather die,
but then you came and broke my iris
and the world flooded into color again.

it was strange how drained i was,
and strange this feeling of love
after lovelessness and lust
broke in waves against thinned skin.

but you laid me out to dry,
and after all the sea-salt smiles
i felt a motion where i was motionless..
in my heart i felt a thump,

a kick start that brought my color back,
i was stretched beneath the stars, the blackness
lifted and the universe was tilted
and i felt my irises contract.

Gorgeous flow and meaning, you are plugged into the universe too.
