remission

by Lauren Singer

magic johnson
you are the luckiest man alive.
i remember sitting cross-legged
on the l-shaped couch
thinking heroes are just tragic men with more to lose.

who am i to hold out for a
shape-shifting solution to
the real diplomatic firestarter.

did they somehow treat you better?
was your money better paved in gold?
i see your decree of pardon is only for you.

you are so lucky
magic johnson.

what is your secret?
did they give you the antidote
because we all felt bad?

i'm sorry you had to go through that.

I may seem like the biggest jackass for this but, I have said to myself (and sometimes others) that either he never had it and just wanted a really good excuse to retire ORRRR he did have it and had so much money he had access to the best drugs and it went away...either way he is quite lucky and I agree with you on that, but sorry he had to go through it? No, I am not sorry for that. He cheated on his wife numerous times with unknown women without protection...he had that $hit coming. ~JPP
