Something Poetic About Fish

by David Neubauer

Slipping, scales shimmering,
soaring sleek, serpentine…
maybe there is something poetic about fish?
Angelfish, betta, clownfish,
all dancing, light as a feather,
bubbles floating, eyes bulging,
lips pressed against the glass.
“We may be small,”
they mouth, “but you can only wish
to fly like we do.”

I have multiple fish tanks and have always been able to lose myself in their poetry. Thank you for saying it so well!
